Becoming a Family Sponsor

There are many families in Siem Reap who have approached us to take their children into the orphanage because they cannot afford to feed them or send them to school. Our aim is to enable children who do have a family to be able to remain with them so that only children who have no-one come into the orphanage Under this programme, we will help a family stay together by paying for all their children to go to a government school (including uniforms, books, shoes etc) and a limited amount of food supplies for the family. In exchange the parents must guarantee that the children will not be sent to work or to beg.

Additionally we want to help the adults of the family to not become dependent on us and to help them with particular social and medical problems they may have so we will also run skills courses as part of our support. The family will be supported through regular visits by our staff and  activities and social events at our centres.

The cost of supporting a family in this way is estimated to be US$50 a month, sometimes a little higher for large families. These children are desperate for help so if you can help please complete the sponsor form on our website www.cofcambodia.org.

What happens when you become a family sponsor?

1. Within a month of receiving your first donation we will email you a photo and information about the children and the family you have sponsored.
2. You will receive regular updates about the family’s progress.
3. At the moment your donations are not tax deductible. We are in the process of applying for COF to come under the auspices of a charity that can receive tax deductible donations on our behalf. If successful, we will suggest you make your donations through the charity and you will receive tax receipts.
